Shawna & Cory Venue CU Wedding
Shawna came to me after having her first wedding date cancelled. She was overwhelmed with the idea of re-planning everything for her new date, February 12, 2022. I hadn’t done a February wedding so was really excited that she wanted snow!

They don’t come more sweet or laid back than Shawna. The entire planning process together she was as cool as a cucumber.
Shawna and Cory had such a fun almost hippie flair to their day. For example, instead of throwing flower petals as they walked up the aisle, Shawna created little tambourines for everyone to shake. Their music choices were also so cool and unique! Kayla Brown has a BEAUTIFUL voice too! I’m such a sucker for live music. It completely changes the vibe- in the best way possible.
One of Shawna’s priorities was the invitations. She looooves pretty paper. Shawna and Kate worked together to create something truly magical. Shawna had a local artist create a custom envelope liner that coordinated with her bridal bouquet- complete with bursts of jewel tones and pheasant feathers. The invitations were thicker than usual paper with gold edging. So classy and wonderful!
Shawna and her mom shared a first dance which I wish every bride would incorporate into her day. Such a special moment- why does the dad only get to have that?! Shawna’s dad has passed so she wanted to have this moment with her mom. Her mother also shared a toast which was so special and heartfelt.
Shawna’s overall look reminded me of a vintage movie star. The big soft curls, the jeweled hair piece, the dark lips, the T strap heels, the long sleeved gown. She looked absolutely stunning and so classic!
I loved Cory’s black tux with bowtie. Again, so classic. The Venue CU not only has the perfect getting ready room for the bride and her maids but also the perfect getting ready room for the groom and his men. Equipped with a large TV and gaming system there’s lot of manly decor too. The only downside is that they aren’t accessible as both are located upstairs.
Shawna and Cory each had one person stand up with them. I think this is so special. Don’t get me wrong, I love a big bridal party. However I think sometimes we feel like we need to have a huge bridal party or group of friends in order to not be lonely. As I get older I’m realizing if you can just have that one person who’s your ride or die then that’s what’s important. I’d rather have a few close friends than a bunch of surface relationships.
As I worked with Shawna I learned that each element was very intentional. She didn’t stress about the details but she definitely wanted things to have meaning. She spent time collecting the right pieces for decor- including the fabulous giant candelabras. The “theme” of the wedding was “fire and honey” so there were elements of this incorporated into the day. The tagline was “love wild as fire and sweet as honey.”
The ribbon on Shawna’s and her matron of honor’s bouquets was written on from Kate with Apricity Ink. What a cool touch! I had never seen that before. Kate is the best!
I miss working and talking with Shawna on a consistent basis but I’m so happy everything went smoothly and it was an amazing day! Congrats to the beautiful couple!
