Champaign-Urbana MTD H2 Launch

I was completely honored the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) aka the CU local bus system hired 618 to help with their hydrogen fuel (H2) cell bus launch event. I had to take some time to educate myself and learn what a H2 cell bus even was! Basically, this new bus runs solely off hydrogen and only emits water vapor. How cool! They are only the third city in the entire USA to own a bus like this. But even cooler, they are producing the hydrogen on-site (the ONLY city in the USA that does that) and it’s completely green (uses solar panels for power). WOW!

The launch party was an invitation only event held just outside the MTD bus barn in Urbana. We needed a main tent for the program along with several stations set up all over to educate guests regarding the H2 creation and how it powers the buses. For the program we had wonderful speakers to share their excitement for this project and get the guests pumped too!

Working with the MTD team was truly a blessing. They were such a wonderful team and everyone was so willing to help and play their part. Not only during the planning process but also on the event day (or rather, week).

Since it was all outside we had to set up tents all over in case of bad weather. So set up took place earlier in the week to ensure everything was ready for Thursday morning’s event.

We had breakfast food at each station, a really fun photo booth, gorgeous wild-flower inspired florals, prominent guest speakers, and cool demonstrations to help guests understand all the little details. Some even got the chance to fill up the H2 bus at the fueling station!
